Ahmet Urkay Museum
Ahmet Urkay Museum is one of Turkey’s richest private museum in ethnography. In fact, Ahmet Urkay, the museum’s founder is a carpet merchant. Over the years, He has been sold textile products such as towels and linen in various villages of Anatolia. While he was touring the villages, he also collected old articles many of which were swept aside. Urkay takes some of the items in the museum with exchange from the villagers. Museum is separated as Ethnography and Archeology in two large buildings. There are archaeological and ethnographic pieces which are made from marble in the garden of museum. There are hundreds of old goods such as jewelry, embroidered tablecloths, clothes, kitchen utensils, old stoves, trunks, ceramics which especially gathered from the villages of the Aegean region in the ethnography section. Private rooms which have symbolize wood decoration of Muğla region are built in the museum. This special museum is located on the left the way to Marmaris, immediately after crossing of Sedir (Cedar) Island. Yoruk Museum
“Because our museum is in the village and a place whom is portrayed nomad life; We don’t accept complaints such as rooster crowed, donkeys brayed, ox bellowed, cats meow said and the dog barked” says Enver Yalcin who is owner of Nomad Museum. Oghuz Turks, which live as nomads in Anatolia, provide their living with cattle and sit in tents that they set up in the highlands in summer are called as Yoruk or Turkoman. Enver Yalcin brought together around parts whom Turkomans were using in their life and founded a private museum. Yoruk Museum of Enver Yalcin is located on the left at the entrance to Fethiye in the village of Kargi. The museum building is designed and built by Enver Yalcin. There are the village animals such as donkey, chickens, roosters, goats in the lush garden. Enver Yalcin operates as a hostel rooms in which is in the garden of the museum and gives the breakfast to guests. Turkomans which are living in the region up from Antalya to Denizli in Turkiye are called Nomad. In the past, the nomad were living in the mountains in summer and they were living at the beach in winter. There is an ethnographic exhibition in Nomad Tent which was established in Fethiye Calis Beach. Nomad Exhibition was founded by Ismail Uzunoglu who is a good instrument artists. Former household goods, shirts, musical instruments, textiles, carpets, kitchen utensils and many other old items belonging to the nomads are located within this exhibition. Here also, you can make a great breakfast consist of organic food belonging to nomads. Folk songs are said in these tents each evening. Photography Museum
Photography Museum which is only one and first in Turkiye was founded by Balıkesir Art Photographers Association in 2006, May 19. The Museum consists of two separate buildings as Museum of Photography and Photo Library. A salon that artists of photo exhibit their latest pictures is on the ground floor of the museum. A small room in the floor is devoted to the famous photographers of Balıkesir. In the entrance hall on the second floor of the museum are on display historical photo albums. The photograph machines which used from the past to today are also on display in this floor. There are special sections for photo darkroom equipments and materials in the second floor. The largest photo library in Turkiye is on the side of the museum. Nearly 70% of Books were published about photos in Turkiye are in this library. Uluumay Ottoman Clothing and Jewelry Museum
One of Turkey’s most beautiful private museums is this. Esat Uluumay (1939) who is founder Anatolian Folklore Foundation, founded a museum with ethnographic objects, costumes and jewelry compiled during the life by him. Poet Ahmet Pasha Madrasah which is across Muradiye Mosque in the Bursa has been allocated to this museum. men and women’s clothing compiled from all over the Ottoman Empire are on display in the small rooms of the museum. A small room, is devoted to the Ottoman period costumes of the clergy. There are beautiful silver jewelries from each other, ornaments and a collection of horse saddles in the great hall opposite the middle of the courtyard. Large and small ethnographic goods, accessories, linen and bath items such as coffee in the corridors of museum. A library about dress books and works was established in a room of the museum. Museum is a place to be sure to visit.
